Private Lessons

Private lessons give you an opportunity for customized one-on-one assistance on topics and projects you choose. Before your first lesson, you can contact us to discuss your interests and goals, and we will design a lesson (or series of lessons) that will help you gain the skills you want to build. Lessons can be taken solo or with another person as you prefer (and as scheduling permits). Time can be booked in increments of 30 minutes, one hour, 1.5 hours, or 2 hours.

TOPICS TAUGHT

Any of the content taught in our group classes can also be taught in private lessons. In general, we can cover:

Intro to Sewing and beginner projects
Bags and accessories
Hemming, mending, and clothing alterations
Garment construction for men, women, and children from a pattern
Creating patterns from existing clothes or items
Pattern making and draping for clothing and accessories
Quilting
Hand embroidery
Hand sewing

RATES and POLICIES

Dear Students,

It’s been almost three years since we last raised our rates. In that time, we’ve expanded into a larger space and built up our staff to include several patient, friendly, and highly experienced instructors who are available to assist you with private lessons tailored to your learning style and level. Students who have purchased lesson slots and packages prior to May 1, 2013 will maintain their current rates and packages, but all new purchases will follow the rates listed below. Rates Effective May 1, 2013

Time can be booked in increments of 30 minutes, one hour, 1.5 hours, or 2 hours.

We now have two rate categories, weekday and weekend. Please note that the four-lesson packages can only be used for weekdays, as weekend lessons are a flat rate no matter how many lessons you schedule. Unfortunately you cannot use packages for a combination of weekend and weekday lessons, only for weekday lessons.

PRIVATE (ONE PERSON)
Weekday lessons (10-6pm M-F):	$40/hour
Weeknight lessons (6-8pm M-F):	$45/hour
Weekend lessons (10am-6pm Sat or Sun):	$45/hour
SEMI-PRIVATE (TWO PEOPLE) A few notes on semi-private lessons: Semi-private lessons are all charged at the flat hourly rate listed below. Generally, we recommend having a friend in mind if you would like to schedule a semi-private lesson, but you can also let us know if you would like us to look for a partner for you. We cannot guarantee that we can find a match, but will do our best! To book a semi-private lesson, one person will book a spot at the regular hourly rate for private (one-on-one) lessons, and the balance can be paid at the studio. Please contact us to let us know if you have a partner coming, or if you would like us to look for a partner for you. At the time of the lesson, if both people are present, we can refund the “lead” who booked the spot as needed so that both students are paying the same reduced amount.
Weekday lessons (10-6pm M-F):	$30/hour each
Weeknight lessons (6-8pm M-F):	$35/hour each
Weekend lessons (10-6pm Sat or Sun):	$35/hour each
PACKAGES (valid for ONE PERSON private lessons during weekdays 10am-6pm only) Packages save you 10% on lesson prices! They can be used for the same time slot each week or variable time slots as you choose. Generally for adults, we recommend 1.5 hour or 2 hour packages. For young children (7-9), one hour lessons are best. Children ages 10+, 1.5 hours are more suitable. We only offer packages for weekday lessons (10am-6pm); all weeknight (6-8pm) weekend (Sat-Sun) lessons are at the flat rate listed above. Packages – Four 1 hour lessons	$144 total ($36/session)
Packages – Four 1.5 hour lessons	$216 total ($54/session)
Packages – Four 2 hour lessons	$288 total ($72/session)

SCHEDULING

Weekday lessons can be scheduled directly online, but for weekends lessons we request that you contact us for assistance scheduling and pairing you with an instructor who is best qualified to meet your lesson goals. Please keep in mind that it may take 2-3 business days for us to respond to calls or voicemails. Our policy for private lessons is the same as for group classes — we require prepayment to book your spot, and 72 hours notice for cancellations.
