Professional dressforms can cost hundreds of dollars and don’t always fit your actual measurements and body shape. In this workshop, you will alter a Uniquely You dressform to your exact size and measurements.
Uniquely You dressforms are foam mannequins that have a sturdy cloth cover that you can alter to your exact measurements. They are one of the most affordable and functional options for a custom form, and the cover can also be altered if you gain or loose weight over time. Better yet, you can purchase additional covers that can be customized to other people (within a size range) so the form can work for more than one individual.
How it Works
Before the class, we will collect information from you on your measurements and then order the forms on your behalf. At the workshop, students will work in pairs with instructor oversight to have the cloth covers accurately fitted to their bodies. Once the alterations to the cloth covers have been marked, students will sew new lines and make any adjustments needed to the covers so that they fit their shape exactly. The covers will then be zipped onto the foam mannequins, compressing the foam into their body shape. Occasionally some parts of the foam mannequin may also need to be trimmed or altered so that the covers fit properly. We will check all of the form’s measurements against your actual measurements, help you make any additional changes if required, and ensure that your final dressform is a replica of your body.
Materials: No materials are needed; we order the forms on your behalf once we have your accurate measurements. However, you will need to come dressed in a way that will enable you to get the most accurate form possible. We recommend wearing leggings, a tight-fitting tank-top or shirt, and a bra similar to what you wear most often. It’s also a good idea to wear comfortable shoes, because you may be standing for 30 minutes or so while the cover is fit to your body.
Prerequisites: Intro to Sewing or basic knowledge of sewing machine operation is required.

Registration and Refund policy: We close registration two weeks before the class begins because we have to order the forms for you and need to allow time for shipping. Because we are ordering the forms on your behalf, $180 of the class fee is non-refundable once we have placed the order, but you can of course still come to pick up the form that was ordered for you if for some reason you cannot make the class after registering. The remaining $45 class participation fee can be transferred to a studio credit up to 72 hours before the class.

You used to offer a duct-tape dressform workshop that was less expensive. Why do you not offer this class anymore?
Making a duct-tape form is very intensive process that can take 6-8 hours in a group class setting. It’s a great way to create a very accurate replica of your body, but it’s a physically taxing process, both for you and the person wrapping you. We ultimately decided that the Uniquely You forms were a better option for a group class setting, and though they are a bit more expensive, they offer the same ability to customize to fit your unique body shape in about half the time it takes to create the duct tape forms.
Prefer a private wrapping? You can also schedule an individual or two-person session for the materials cost plus the private lesson time.
