Hat Making Workshops

Back by popular demand! We’re  pleased to host Holly Slayton from Artikal Handcrafted Millenery in New York City for more great workshops at the studio. No prior experience of any kind is necessary, just a willingness to experiment and enjoy. These make great gifts and heirloom pieces — not to mention fabulous accessories custom made in your style!


 

Cocktail Fascinators
cocktail Learn to create your own cocktail piece or feather fascinator for any occasion!  Have fun imagining ways that feathers, velour, and vintage buttons can combine to make a one of a kind vintage-style headpiece.

  • Class time:1 session, 3 hours
  • Maximum class size:15 people
  • Supplies required: The class fee includes all materials (feathers, velour, and a comb to serve as the base of the piece) but you are welcome to bring a headband or or clip if you prefer that to the comb. Also, we recommend bringing  a vintage button or pin to add your own style or sparkle.

Freeform Velour Hat Workshop
Learn the concepts of velour hat blocking to create your own truly unique headpiece. You’ll learn how to steam the velour and shape it to develop a chic look of your choice, great to wear in many occasions.

freeform cloche Look sweet and stunning all summer! Create your own freeform blocked straw cloche hat in this fun and creative workshop. Learn basic millinery blocking techniques for parasisol straw, understand blocking equipment, explore different ways to finish edges, insert a sweat band, stitch and finish your hat as well as work with embellishments.

Large Brim Straw Hat
What a wonderful way to keep you gorgeous and cool all summer long! Create your own hand-blocked large brim straw hat! Learn basic millinery blocking techniques for panama straw, gain a better understanding of blocking equipment, explore different ways to finish edges, learn how to insert a sweat band, stitch and finish your hat, and work with embellishments.

  • Create your own Sinamay fascinator or cocktail hat. Learn how to work with Sinamay, a type of woven straw-like fiber that can be manipulated into many different styles. In this workshop, you will learn to stitch and finish your hat as well as work with embellishments and feathers
